Open Lab
The open lab is a great place for students learning
a second language. Students may use the open lab to
further advance their language learning capabilities,
as well as, develop computer skills. The open lab provides
students with the opportunity to utilize materials via
computer, audiocassette, TV and VCR which support concepts
learned within the classroom. The lab also provides
scanning, printing, and sound recording services.
There are several language software programs that are
suitable for every language level. One software program
that is used for Chinese word processing is NJ Star.
NJ Star is a user-friendly word processor that is ideal
for Chinese learning and teaching. With NJ Star, students
can input, edit, format, convert, and print Chinese
documents. Another popular language software program
is the English Language Learning and Instruction System
(ELLIS). This program is used by the ESL and AMLA communities
for interactive videos and games, listening, pronunciation,
and grammar exercises. ELLIS provides students with
enhanced step-by-step instruction, practice exercises,
and exams. Other materials in the open lab include digitized
audio and video files, DVD's in almost every language,
CD-ROM's, textbooks and workbooks.
As you can see, the open lab is very diverse in every
aspect of language and culture. Please come by and experience
a world of learning through hands-on interaction with
one of our many available technologies.
